Wal-Mart Billionaire Gets Huge Donation From Her Family

[Forbes] Kelly Crow of theWall Street Journal reports that Alice’s Crystal Bridges Museum just collected an $800 million pledge from her own family. According to the Journal, this is the largest gift ever given to an American Museum.

[Forbes] Not that she needs the money. Alice, the daughter of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton, ranks #21 on the FORBES World Billionaire List and is the 9th richest American with a net worth of $21.2 billion.

[Forbes] Given the family’s $111 billion valuation, that generous $800 million gift amounts to just 0.7% of the family’s wealth. In other words, say you’re worth $100,000–it’s the equivalent of buying Apple’s iPad 2 (64 GB; no data plan).
