Tom Petters appeals conviction, wants public to pay for court costs

Petters' lawyer, Eric Riensche asked the court to declare Tom Petters destitute so that he can use public funds to pay for his clients' trial fees.

Last week, Petters was convicted on charges of fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering for his role in orchestrating a $3.65 billion Ponzi Scheme and sentenced to 50 years in prison.

According to the Associated Press, Petters said, "I am not presently employed, nor do I have any source of income."
