Serena’s Bad Behavior Results In Laughable $2000 Fine
[Excerpt] For verbally abusing a chair umpire and making a mockery of tennis on its grandest stage, Serena Williams earned a paltry $2,000 fine from gutless U.S. Open officials afraid to rein in the despicable behavior of the game's biggest star.
[Excerpt] In total at the U.S. Open, Serena spent 527 minutes on the court, earning $2,656 per minute. Essentially, she paid for that $2,000 fine in 45 seconds of court time.
She should have been booted from the competition and banned from every competition for the rest of the season.
Allowing athletes to behave in an unsportsmanlike manner does more damage to the image of the game than any loss of income resutling from barring them from playing.
Why do so many sports organizations feel obligated to coddle assholes?
