Rick Perry Budget Cuts: Firefighters pay for own gear and engine fuel in Texas

[Huffpo] Earlier this week, HuffPost reported that Gov. Rick Perry, the GOP front-runner for president, had signed off on millions in firefighting cuts as part of the state's most recent budget legislation.

Texas - With wild fires creating a tinder box around major metropolitan areas Austin and Houston, we learn that Governor Perry slashed and burned first responder budgets by nearly $30 million. The state's firefighters were already dealing with budget cuts affecting their ability to purchase fuel for their trucks, water hoses, and air tanks for their men.

[Huffpo] In some cases, fire officials say, firefighters have had to pay out of pocket for basic necessities like proper protective gear and fuel to get them to the scene.
