Rich Executives Fearing Populist Anger Spend Millions On Bodyguards
[excerpt] There are no reliable numbers on the growth of executive protection (EP), but the experts I spoke with say it has expanded at a rapid clip since the 1980s, with dozens of new players breaking into the game. That happens to be the same period during which the top 1 percent of US earners nearly tripled their annual income (PDF). More than a few of them, it seems, have felt compelled to hire men with guns.
Instead of making an effort to make positive change in a catastrophically broken economic system, executives are spending obscene amounts of money hiring highly trained former soldiers to protect them from the very people they are screwing every which way from Sunday.
Executives are crooks. And, for some former military personal, it seems, a paycheck is all that is required to protect the very people who used them for extreme personal gain in the first place.
