Miss. Gov. Barbour Blew $300K on Travel in 2010

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) reportedly used taxpayer money to hobnob with wealthy potential donors and campaign for Republican candidates in 2010.

Records obtained by the Clarion-Ledger show that Barbour spent over $300,000 to pay for out of state trips in 2010 alone.

The irony in all this is that the governor had called for deep budget cuts to education and mental health in 2010, even as his travel spending topped 2009.

Private jet travel in support of the conservative agenda is nothing new to Barbour. In fact, we'd say that he's less concerned about being governor than he is about setting up a potential run at president, but Barbour was heavily criticized recently after a Politico report revealed that he has spent over $500,000 in the last three years on air travel alone.

But, but, but teachers are overpaid.
