Meg Whitman spending hits $140M in bid for Governor

Republican billionaire former eBay CEO Meg Whitman has now spent $140 million on her bid to become governor of California, most of it from her own pocket.

According to campaign disclosure documents filed Tuesday night, Whitman spent $39.7 million from the beginning of July to the end of September and raised $38.7 million — $28 million of which came from her own funds.

Whitman has contributed $119 million from her personal fortune to her campaign so far and has pledged to spend upwards of $150 million to become governor.

Despite her record-setting spending, Whitman actually trails her opponent Democrat Jerry Brown in the latest polls.

$17 billion has been cut from California schools over the past two years and a woman who supposedly "cares" about her state is wasting millions on her bid to become a power broker.
