Mayor Daley’s Wife Got $6.5 Million City Contract

Greg Hinz reports that Maggie Daley's charity After School Matters received a $6.5-mil. city contract four days before Mayor Daley left office.

[excerpt] A wonderful coincidence, no? After School Matters gets a grant agreement worth up to $6,480,000  "to support ongoing summer jobs and after-school programs for youth" just four days before Rahm Emanuel is sworn into office, vowing to search high and low for potential cuts to balance a budget that's $635 million in the red.

The program itself is has proven to be a valuable asset to Chicago communities. The charity's charter is to create and provide programs for teens in an effort to keep them off the streets and out of trouble. While the charity has been lauded by politicians and citizens alike for doing good work with a vulnerbale population, Mr. Hinz is absolutely right in asking why they would risk their organization with such a blatant coincidence involving public funds.
