Hosni Mubarak and his two sons to be tried for murder, corruption

CAIRO (AFP) – Egypt's ex-president Hosni Mubarak and his two sons were on Tuesday referred to a criminal court on charges of ordering the killings of anti-regime protesters and graft, the public prosecutor's office said.

[excerpt] The prosecutor's office said that Mubarak and his sons Alaa and Gamal have been charged with "premeditated murder of 846 participants in the peaceful protests of the January 25 revolution."

Mubarak and his sons have also been charged with profiteering and using their positions for illicit gains and squandering public funds, the prosecutor's office added.

Conviction carries the death sentence.
