Bernie Madoff’s eldest son commits suicide
Mark Madoff was found hanging fully clothed from a pipe in the ceiling of his SoHo apartment in the early morning by his father-in-law after Madoff's wife, Stephanie, received two disturbing emails and sent someone to check on her youngest son.
Madoff's 2-year-old son Nicholas was found unharmed and sleeping comfortably in the next room.
Two years ago to the day, it was Mark and his younger brother Andrew who alerted federal authorities about the biggest investment fraud scheme in history.
"No one wants to hear the truth," the despondent 46-year-old scion wrote his lawyer in one of three wrenching emails dispatched around 4 a.m., a law enforcement source told The Post.
"Take care of my family."
In two messages sent to wife Stephanie he said, "I love you" — and then alerted her to "send someone to take care of Nick," the source said.
Neither of Bernie Madoff's sons have ever been convicted of participating in their father's incredible crime. However, each member of Bernie's immediate family has been under unrelenting pressure due to continuing investigations and law suits.
