Athletes Make Far Too Much Money

The highest paid athletes make, on average, 20 million per year more than the highest paid athletes in 1991.

The cut-off to make the top 20 has jumped from $7 million to $26 million.

Today’s highest-paid athletes:

  1. Tiger Woods ($75 million)
  2. Kobe Bryant ($53 million)
  3. LeBron James ($48 million)
  4. Roger Federer ($47 million)
  5. Phil Mickelson ($46.5 million)

Top-paid in 1991:

  1. Evander Holyfield ($60.5 million)
  2. Mike Tyson ($31.5 million)
  3. Michael Jordan ($16 million)
  4. George Foreman ($14.5 million)
  5. Ayrton Senna ($13 million)
