Amish Investor Defrauds Community of $18 Million

A 77 year old man named Monroe Beachy has been charged with operating a Ponzi scheme that defrauded 2600 investors out of $18 million.

[Cleveland.com] Beachy was charged (pdf) Wednesday with defrauding thousands of his fellow Amish farmers, carpenters and neighbors of tens of millions of dollars in an alleged Ponzi scheme that has earned Beachy a nickname: The Amish Bernie Madoff.

Beachy has a 10th grade educaton. Cleveland.com reported that he acuired most of his financial education from classes offered by H&R block.
